Stop error trouble
Each time I get one, I reboot the computer, it runs chkdsk and then I don't have the warning. About the time I relax...a couple of hours later, I get another one. I also am getting a 7E stop error on shutdown or startup. I'm wondering if this could be a RAM problem. Thanks, kp.

By the way, I read the Blue Screen eror and it actually indicates Stop 0x0000007B and not 7E that I previously read erroneously. thanks for your help. I hit "ctrl-alt-del" and after it rebooted, the blues screen came up with the Stop error. Is there a way to get around that stop error and get to the DOS prompt

fine, started a couple of tests and Win XP Pro died to a nasty blue screen stop error 7E, and did a memory dump to my hard drive! It recovered okay (with the usual warning). But Windows seems to have rolled back to the previous driver and will no longer let me install the new one.

There's no stop error. The machine just doesn't complete its first boot - at least not before patience runs out. Shut it down and remove 2GB and the boot completes OK. Once the chipset drivers are updated - or perhaps it's the fix in 929777 from Windows Update, 4GB works fine.

Never tracked it down, but it's strange that I didn't have blue screens at all until I installed Zone Alarm 2.6. I think that the errors for W2K and the ones for XP are pretty much the same.
